Base: the 127,602 editorial rows in the JournalistLabs base (`platform_domain == 0` and `media_typed == 1`), people data pulled from July to September 2026. A row counts for The New York Times when its employer domain is nytco.com (1,801 rows) or nytimes.com (367 rows). Role is classified from the job title. Location is the person's own country and state.

The comparison figure of 1,700 journalists (March 2023) is from the Wikipedia page for The New York Times, attributed there to deputy managing editor Sam Dolnick. The Washington Post is left out of the outlet table: 3 of its 168 rows carry a reporter title.
